Congratulations

  • Our Head of School, A/Prof Sue Jones has been awarded a prestigious HERDSA Fellowship
  • Teaching Merit Certificates were recently awarded to Drs Ashley Edwards and Erik Wapstra
  • Kathryn Wheatley has received a Postdoc at the Marine Science Institute, University of Texas at Austin

Grant/Scholarship Successes

  • James Dell and Anne Elise Neiblis have been awarded CSIRO Flagship scholarships. These scholarships cover operating and travel money to support their PhD research projects. Both projects are focussing on Australian fisheries and climate change.
  • Erik Wapstra – Hermann Slade Foundation grant for climate change and reptiles.
  • Craig Johnson FIRDC grant on urchin barren and crayfish
  • Holsworth Wildlife Trust funding to Anne Watson, Caitlin Vertigan, Michele Thums, Kevin Redd and Sarah Tassell.
  • Ingram Trust funding to Erin Flynn
  • Lindsay Marshall has received an ABWRS travel award.

A big “Thank You' to Dr Derek Turnbull for being the First Year Practical Co-ordinator for Semester 1, 2007. We and the students really appreciated the energy and enthusiasm he brought to this role.

Where is everyone?

It seems a bit ‘thin on the ground' at the moment, so in case you are wondering where everyone is:

  • Alastair is overseas on LSL until 11 July
  • Erik is on sabbatical in Sweden until end of June.
  • Hamish is attending a conference in Ithica , USA until 7 June and then will off again to South Africa from 29 June until 13 July
  • Mark Hindell will be conducting fieldwork in Norway until 11 June
  • Some of the postgrads who are also attending conferences:
  • Geoff While is in Sydney and the off to Christchurch , NZ until 30 June
  • Beth Strain will be in Boston and San Francisco until 31 May
  • James Dell is in Santa Cruz , USA and then onto Cape Town , South Africa until 23 July
  • Jessica Melbourne-Thomas is in London and then Jakarta until 15 August
  • Nicholas Beeton (along with Hamish) will be in Ithica until 6 June

Theses submitted

Congratulations are due to PhD student Megan Oliver who has submitted her thesis. We congratulate her on her achievement and look forward to following her future career.
