Florence Sprent Prize

Whereas Florence Sprent, of Tasmania, by her will bequeathed the sum of $50 to the University of Tasmania for general purposes; it is hereby provided as follows:

1 The aforesaid sum, together with any accumulations of income thereof and accretions thereto, shall form the endowment of a prize to be called The Florence Sprent Prize.

2 The prize shall be awarded annually to the student who shows the greatest proficiency in second year units offered by the School of Zoology, and who:

(a) has not previously presented for examination in those units; and

(b) has obtained at least passes with Distinction in those units.

(c) the current value of the award is $70.00.

 

History

The Zoology department received its first student prize on 13 August 1929 when Florence Sprent left £25 ($50) for Biology. The interest from the bequest yielded about 2 guineas for the prize each year.
